Was a weaver by trade. He worked in the linen mills situated on the Burndale River in the village Raphoe.
Of Scottish Ancestry he had several brothers & sisters.
He & Elizabeth left Ireland by boat in 1849 & settled in Newburgh, Orange County, New York
In 1861 along with six of their children (Andrew & Rebecca remaind behind) went west to Section 14, Charleston Township, Michigan.
All their childern’s births are registered in a heavy book, still in existance (Except John’s)
