Sir John was born in 1450 in the Parish of Dunham on the Trent and may be presumed to have entered into nobility upon his marriage to Elizabeth Bowett in 1471.  This seems probable as the Manor at Kirklington was granted to him in a deed at Newark on March 19, 1502 and Elizabeth died March 7, 1501/2.  Assuming that the latter date of death is correct, it would appear that Sir John acquired the property as a result of his wife's passing.  Sir John died at the Manor on November 9, 1524, leaving the estate to his daughter, Frances, and her husband, John Hazelwood, Esquire.  Among Sir John and Elizabeth's other four children was John (7th Generation), who was born in 1474.
